ITsec was founded in 1995 as an independent supplier of IT-security related expertise and services. ITsec was the first company in the Netherlands to specialize in security assessments and penetration testing.
Shortly after ITsec was founded, it became involved in the interbank ‘iPay’ initiative. iPay was the first Internet-based payment initiative of the Netherlands. ITsec was asked by Interpay, nowadays knows as Equens, to test iPay’s security. The results of the assessment, against the expectations of Equens, yielded some “interesting” findings. ITsec’s reputation in the financial market was established.
“ITsec has the reputation of a company that employs people with the skills of a hacker, the reliability of a solicitor and the correctness of a financial auditor”.
Shortly after the iPay initiative, Rabobank brought the first version of their internet banking application to the market. ITsec was asked to test the operational effectiveness of the security measures from a hacker’s perspective. After this assessment, ITsec became more and more familiar in the Dutch financial market. ITsec until mid 2008 mainly worked for banks. In this market segment, ITsec built the reputation of a company where people work with the skills of a hacker, the reliability of a solicitor and the correctness of a financial auditor”.
Sometimes, exaggerating, at ITsec we say that within the Netherlands there is no application for internet banking we haven’t tested.
In 2016 Insite Group acquired ITsec, remaining the identity, quality and continuity of the company!
Nowadays, ITsec works for various markets where cyber security, because of transforming business models, new threats and/or laws and regulations is a top priority on the board agenda. Examples are healthcare institutions, (local) government and IT-service providers.
